Learning Spanish

The girls have a talking "Princess Celestia" pony toy, that was given to Sophia for her birthday last year.

The one we have speaks Spanish (since we got it here). When we first got it, I had NO CLUE what it was saying. Even with watching the commercials, and knowing what it should be saying, I couldn't tell what was going on.

Josie just pulled it out of the toy bin and started pressing the button to make her talk, and I have to say I was pretty darn excited to realize that I was actually able to understand (almost) everything it was saying! Even with the tinny, robotic voice, I was able to make out the words without any effort.

It's a small milestone, and might seem trivial to most people, but it was a huge moment for me that I just had to share :)

Sophie the First

Yesterday we went to a BBQ with some friends and had a wonderful afternoon. On the drive home from the BBQ, Josie fell asleep so Sophie & I had one of our "deep" conversations.

We had watched Disney's new movie/TV show "Sofia the First" that morning, and Sophie had apparently spent a lot of time analyzing the plot. For those that haven't seen it:

Sofia is a little girl with a commoner's background until her mom marries the King and suddenly she is royalty. With the help of the three fairies in charge of the Royal Training Academy, Sofia learns that looking like a princess isn't all that hard, but behaving like one must come from the heart.
Via imdb.

Sophie: Why did Sofia's mom marry the king? Where was her real dad?

Me: That's a good question. I don't know for sure, but maybe something happened and her real dad died.

Sophie: Her dad died? That's really sad.

Me: That would be really sad. I know that we would be really sad if anything happened to your daddy, because we sure love him.

Sophie: Yeah. I love him so much that my heart is going to burst and it's gonna explode into thousands of tiny hearts!

Me: That's really sweet, Soph.

(a few minutes of silence go by)

Sophie: If something happened to my dad, would you marry a king?

Me: Not a chance, Sophie. We're not even going to go there.

Sophie: Oh. Okay.
